How it works
The username marketplace lists @btc.email addresses for sale. Some rows are platform suggestions (sold by BTC.email); others are listed by approved members who already use that primary address.
Who you deal with: Member listings pay another member. Platform suggestions pay BTC.email through the platform recipient. BTC.email does not hold funds in escrow or guarantee any price. Checkout uses wallet transfers on the test network during the private alpha.
What you pay: The listed price in sats, sent from your wallet to the seller’s @btc.email address, plus any network fee shown before you confirm.
After a sale: The buyer’s old primary address enters a seven-day retiring window (same as changing your address in Settings): mail there is set aside, then deleted unless undone in time. The seller moves to the replacement address they named when listing. Mail to the sold address eventually routes to the new owner’s inbox once setup finishes; mail sent to old addresses during retiring follows the same rules as an address change. A completed sale cannot be undone.
Timing: Checkout may reserve a name for about 15 minutes. Completing the sale can take additional time while inboxes are prepared; status shows Completing sale during that work. If payment succeeded but setup stalls, status may show Payment received, finishing — contact support with the sale reference from Bitcoin activity.
20% platform fee: The listed price is what the buyer pays in sats. BTC.email keeps 20% as a platform fee (rounded down); the seller receives the rest. Fees are collected in a separate wallet transfer at checkout.
